User Documentation: Order tip or donation

Introduction

Order Tip / Donation for WooCommerce adds a tip or donation box on your cart and checkout pages. Customers can pick a preset amount, enter their own amount, or round up their total.

The selected tip is added to the cart total and saved with the order. Use it to collect staff tips, donations, or round-off contributions.

Getting Started

  1. In your WordPress admin, open Order tips.
  2. Open the Tips tab. This list shows Tip name, Status, Desc, and Action.
  3. Click Add tip to create a new tip box. To change an existing one, click its tip name.
  4. The tip form has five sections: Step 1: Basic information, Step 2: Tip amount setup, Step 3: Additional Options, Step 4: Design & Appearance, and Step 5: Display Conditions.
  5. Fill in Tip title and add at least one row under Values. These two are required.
  6. Click Save changes.
  7. Open the Basic setting tab to choose Position on cart page, Position on checkout page, and Order status, then click Save Option.
  8. Make sure Status is switched on. The tip box only appears on your store when Status is on and at least one valid amount exists.

  2. Enter Tip title: Support our staff.
  3. Under Values, add three rows: Small / 2, Generous / 5, Kind / 10.

Plugin Settings

All tip boxes are managed under Order tips > Tips. General positions and report settings are under Order tips > Basic setting and Order tips > Report.

Step 1: Basic information

Status

Turn this tip box on or off. When off, it does not appear in your store.

Tip Priority

Controls the order when several tip boxes are available. Higher numbers appear first. For example, a tip with priority 10 appears above a tip with priority 5. Default is 1.

Tip title

The heading shown in the tip box. This is required. Saving with an empty title fails.

Example: Support our staff, Donate.

Tip Description

Extra text shown under the title. You can leave it empty.

Tip title in subtotal table

The label shown next to the tip amount in the cart totals and in the order details. The name of the selected option is added in brackets.

Example: if this is Tip and the customer picks 5%, the cart shows Tip (5%).

Not Giving !! button position & text

Lets customers remove or skip the tip. Choose First to show it before the amounts, Last to show it after the amounts, or Dont show button to hide it. The text field sets the button label.

What to enter: default label is Not Giving !!. You can change it, for example to No thanks.

Step 2: Tip amount setup

Values

The preset buttons customers can click. At least one row is required. Each row has a label and a value.

What to enter: label can be any text. Value can be a fixed amount such as 10 or a percentage of the cart subtotal such as 10%.

Example: Small / 2, Generous / 5, Kind / 10. Or 5% / 5%, 10% / 10%.

Default tip

An option that is already selected when the customer first sees the tip box. Leave empty for no preselection.

What to enter: enter an amount or percent that matches one of your Values rows, for example 5 or 10%. A value that does not match is ignored when custom amounts are turned off.

Custom tip amount

When on, customers see an extra button for entering their own amount. When off, only preset buttons appear. Default is on.

Custom label

The label of the custom-amount button. Only used when Custom tip amount is on. Default is Custom.

Apply label

The label of the button that applies the custom amount. Default is Apply.

Min tip, Step, Max tip

Optional limits for the custom amount field. Leave empty for no limit.

What to enter: Min tip is the smallest custom amount, Max tip is the largest, Step is the step for the amount field.

Default tip (custom field)

An amount already filled into the custom amount field. Must not be higher than Max tip.

Round-off tip

Give Order round-off amount as Tip

When on, customers see a round-up button. For example, with a total of 97 and rounding to the nearest 10, the button offers 3. Default is off.

Button text

The label of the round-up button. It must contain {amount}, which is replaced with the actual round-off amount. Default is Round up +{amount}.

Round up to nearest

The total is rounded up to the nearest multiple of this number. It must be greater than 0. Default is 10.

Example: enter 10 to round 97 up to 100. Quick choices 1, 5, 10, 50, and 100 are available.

Minimum round-off amount

The round-up button is hidden when the round-off amount is below this value. Default is 0.10. Enter 0 or leave the logic at its default if you want small round-offs to show.

Maximum round-off amount

The round-up button is hidden when the round-off amount is above this value. It must be greater than 0 and not lower than the minimum. Default is 5.

The button is also hidden when the cart total is already an exact multiple, because there is nothing to round up.

Step 3: Additional Options

Is tip/donation taxable

When on, tax is added to the tip. When off, no tax is added. Default is off.

Tax class

Which tax class applies to the tip. Only used when Is tip/donation taxable is on. If no tax class is selected, the tip is not taxed.

Make tip as required to checkout

Choose Not compulsory to let customers skip the tip, or Must pay tip or cant checkout to block checkout until the customer picks or enters a tip for this box. The customer sees: Please select a tip amount for [your tip title].

Step 4: Design & Appearance

Box background gradient color and style

Changes the background of the tip box. Pick two colors for the gradient, a direction (0, 45, 90, 135, 180, 225, 270, or 315 degrees), and a box shape: Square, Rounded, or Pill.

Button background color and style

Changes the tip buttons. Set the normal button color, the selected button color, and the shape: Square, Rounded, or Pill. Button text color is chosen automatically for readability.

Icon image

An icon shown in the tip box. Choices are Heart, Giving, Gift, Appreciation, Happy, Coffee, Celebration, or Custom. For your own image, choose Custom and enter the image URL. Leave empty for no icon.

Icon position

Shows the icon on the Left or Right of the tip title.

Step 5: Display Conditions

All conditions you set must pass for the tip box to appear. Leave a condition empty to place no limit from that condition.

Customer conditions

  • User role: with Show to this roles, only the selected roles see the tip. With Don’t show to this roles, the selected roles do not see it. Guests can be included. An empty list shows to everyone.
  • Site language: only shows when the site language matches. Leave on All Languages unless you run a multi-language store.

Cart conditions

  • Dont show when only virtual product in cart: when on, the tip is hidden if every item in the cart is virtual.
  • Show only when order subtotal is greater than: the box appears only when the cart subtotal is strictly above this amount. Exactly equal does not count. Example: 100 requires a subtotal above 100.
  • Show only when cart quantity is greater than: the box appears only when the total item quantity is strictly above this number. Exactly equal does not count.

Product conditions

  • Product categories: leave empty to show for all products. Otherwise, Any item matches shows when at least one cart item is in a selected category. All items match shows only when every cart item is in the selected categories.
  • Product tags: works the same way as categories, using product tags.

Day condition

  • Show on days: leave empty to show every day. Otherwise the tip only appears on the selected weekdays, from Sunday to Saturday, using store time.

Basic setting tab

Position on cart page

Where the tip box appears on shortcode-based cart pages. Choices: Before cart, After coupon, After cart, Before total (default), or Apply using shortcode [pisol_otw] for manual placement with the [pisol_otw] shortcode. On block-based cart pages the tip section is added automatically below the product details.

Position on checkout page

Where the tip box appears on shortcode-based checkout pages. Choices: Before checkout form, Before order details, After customer details, Before order review (default), After checkout form, or Apply using shortcode [pisol_otw]. On block-based checkout pages the tip section is added automatically below the contact details.

Order status

Which order statuses count in the report summary. Default is processing, on-hold, and completed. The date-range report also only includes orders with these statuses.

Report tab

Open the Report tab, pick a Start date and End date, then click Show report. The table shows Date, Order ID, Email, Tip / Donation, and Tax for each order. Click Download report to export the same date range as a CSV file.

The sidebar always shows This Year Collection, This Month Collection, and This Week Collection, each with Tip / Donation, Tax, and Total. The orders list also has an Extra fees column showing the tip lines on each order.

What Customers See

  • Preset amounts appear as clickable buttons. Clicking the selected button again removes the tip.
  • The opt-out button, for example Not Giving !!, removes the tip.
  • The Custom button opens an amount field. The customer enters an amount and clicks Apply.
  • The round-up button shows the calculated round-off amount in its label.
  • The tip appears as an extra line in the cart totals, using your Tip title in subtotal table text.
  • Percentage values such as 10% are calculated on the cart subtotal.

Examples

Example 1: Fixed preset tips

Goal: offer three fixed tip choices.

OptionValue
Tip titleSupport our staff
ValuesSmall / 2, Generous / 5, Kind / 10
Custom tip amountOff
Not Giving !! button position & textFirst / Not Giving !!

Result: customers see three buttons plus the opt-out button. Picking Generous adds 5 to the cart total. Clicking it again removes it.

Example 2: Percentage donation with a minimum order

Goal: ask for a percentage donation only on larger carts.

OptionValue
Tip titleDonate
Values5% / 5%, 10% / 10%
Show only when order subtotal is greater than50

Result: the box only appears when the subtotal is above 50. A subtotal of exactly 50 does not show it. With a subtotal of 200 and 10% selected, the tip is 20.

Example 3: Required round-off tip

Goal: ask every customer to round up their total.

OptionValue
Give Order round-off amount as TipOn
Round up to nearest10
Minimum round-off amount0.10
Maximum round-off amount5
Make tip as required to checkoutMust pay tip or cant checkout

Result: customers see a Round up button with the calculated amount. Checkout is blocked until a tip is selected. The button hides when the round-off amount is outside 0.10 to 5 or the total is already a multiple of 10.

Important Notes

  • A tip box appears only when Status is on and it has at least one valid amount.
  • Percentage amounts are calculated on the cart subtotal, not the final total with shipping and taxes.
  • Subtotal and quantity limits use strictly greater than. Equal to the limit does not show the tip.
  • Tax applies only when Is tip/donation taxable is on and a tax class is selected.
  • Higher Tip Priority numbers appear first.
  • When Custom tip amount is off, the Default tip must match one of your Values rows.
  • The default custom amount must not be higher than Max tip.
  • The round-off button text must contain {amount}.
  • All display conditions combine with AND logic. Category and tag rules can use Any item matches or All items match.

Troubleshooting

Tip box does not appear

Check that Status is on, Values has at least one valid row, and every condition under Step 5: Display Conditions passes, including role, language, virtual-only cart, subtotal, quantity, categories, tags, and weekday.

Percentage tip looks wrong

Percentages use the cart subtotal as the base, not the final total with shipping and taxes.

Checkout shows a required-tip message

The customer must pick or enter a tip for the named tip box before placing the order.

Round-off button is missing

Check that the round-off switch is on, Round up to nearest and Maximum round-off amount are greater than 0, and the calculated amount falls between the minimum and maximum.

Report is empty

Check the selected date range and the Order status setting. Only orders with those statuses are counted.

Tip box is in the wrong place

Check Position on cart page and Position on checkout page. Block-based pages place the box automatically.
